Scorched Earth

Scorched Earth refers to the land that was once the location known as Hogsmeade. During the razing of the old wizard community, a team of Dragon Handlers - directed under secretive orders from the Ministry - had erected a small camp near the edges of the Forbidden Forest where they, dressed as Death Eaters, tortured captured dragons of various breeds for the better part of a week.

These methods of torture included but was not limited to: breaking their eggs and the use of Freezing Charms within their maws to burn (but not destroy) the glands that produce and release flame.

Once the battle had tipped in Death Eater favour, the frenzied pack was released by the handlers who fled before they could be harmed. The scent - and most importantly sight - of the nearby Death Eaters and the decay of undead had drawn the beasts’ wrath and, within the hour, those forces left to claim victory over Hogsmeade were killed by the enraged pack.

The dragons themselves were taken down by the more powerful beings in charge of the attack, though not before everything had become Dragon Ash in their wake.

After the War

The scorched earth as we knew it then no longer exists. The glittering residue of Dragon Ash, combined with the potent use of Ancient Magic turned the ruins to a breeding ground of chaos; a Wild Magic Zone. The adjoining Forbidden Forest began to grow and claim the old village and nearly every speck of true, contemporary wizard history is covered by dense, writhing forests only researchers venture to and, Fate willing, never return from.

Reports of what is truly going on in Hogsmeade now are scarce, though 3 years later, the land still grows and creeps nearer to the abandoned Hogwarts Castle. It is speculated that the magic laying dormant within those walls will only feed whatever is happening in Hogsmeade and the Ministry has expressed concern for the institution’s fate. They, however, have given no other details on the matter.
