Razing of Hogsmeade

During the Second Dark War, the wizarding town of Hogsmeade was attacked twice. The first assault levelled much of the central district though, in the subsequent years it was rebuilt and became home to some few thousand wizards and witches once more.

However, in the final offensive of the Dark Lord, Hogsmeade was marched on by Voldemort’s northern allies: death eaters and frost giants fought alongside the (then) Patriarch of the ancient viking line – Hagalaz, and his loyal followers. Led by an awakened lich who roused undead minions by the thousands for the assault, Hogsmeade, defended by a smattering of volunteers led by the Weasley twins, did not last long against an army raised to smash the northern defences and march down to London.

Despite overwhelming odds arrayed against them, the battle was ferocious and, once the defenders of Hogwarts rallied and came to the support of their neighbours, the fighting became a rolling retreat from the town to the heavily fortified school.

Ultimately, Hogsmeade was razed by its defenders.

A tornado conjured by the Wind Lord, Eclipse Luna, dragged a specially prepared dehydrated acid through a bog that had been established to the town’s north. The end result created an acidic storm that destroyed much of the town (and the occupying army). This, combined with the Scorched Earth defence initiative, resulted in the utter annihilation of the ancient wizarding town.
