ACOP

Anti-Christ of Posting: An ACOP is a player intent on deliberatly metagaming and/or lore breaking despite being asked by their peers to cease. Characterised by posting attacks on the board and/or saying that the lore is too restrictive and their character aught be able to dodge spells with bullet speed if he/she wants them to be able to do so.

Gamebreaking

Creating lore that ruins the by removing a significant chunk of compelling story possibilities by doing an end run around the conflicts or trials involved. For example, creating an easily purchased and good tasting beverage that functions the same as Polyjuice Potion. Polyjuice itself, while allowing you to do an end run around trying to make a disguise and risking detection, is not a Gamebreaker, because it comes with trials of its own: the ingredients are hard to come by, it takes months to brew and depending on the person, tastes like the contents of a septic tank.

Higgles

Giggles of course...

ErtChat

Spontaneously occurring MSN Messenger conversation with more than 4 Erters in it. Usually consists about 25% of people claiming they are going to leave because they should be posting, but never doing so. Leaving an Ertchat is extremely difficult and usually only achieved by means of a pressing Real Life commitment.

ISO

"In Search of..." This is an acronym brought in from a few other role playing sites by people who play both there and here. It designates who you are looking for to participate in a thread with you. It's neither necessary nor encouraged, but is allowed. See: All Threads Are Open Threads

Lorebreaking

Violating Ert Canon. Often done by accident, in which case the player is kindly reminded, for instance, that Hogsmeade no longer exists so they can't have been there this morning. Sometimes done deliberately, in which case the player is told in no uncertain terms that Sirius Black is very dead.

Metagaming

Metagaming is defined as using OOC knowledge to influence IC behavior, such as having a character walk around a booby trap because you know it's there, even if they have no way of seeing it. Also refers to taking out your feelings about another player on their character using your own character as a weapon, when your own character, from past experience should have no issue with theirs.

Nids

Nods, tupoed.

Nlink

To blink, erter style.

Plushies

Not to be confused with Plushophiles, under any circumstances. Erters imagine that for every character, there exists a character plushie, about the size and style of your average Anime Plushie, but looking like that character, and alive. These function similarly to to what some other RPGs consider character muses, telling them what to write for that character, except that unlike with muses, Erters are not at the mercy of our plushies. When they misbehave, we can grab them and put them in a shoebox until they behave. Unlike the characters they represent, plushies have metagame knowledge, often resulting in plushies piping up in Ertchats to inform those present how a character would respond if they knew what was being discussed in that chat.

Plushie Chat

When an ErtChat devolves into a bunch of people saying what their plushies are doing, often to other people's plushies. Commonly involves plushies rehashing their character's past arguments with one another, usually ended only when the participants get fed up with the plushies, and put them in shoeboxes.

Retcon

Retroactive continuity: When you change something that happened to your character or the world in the past. See the full article for details on how and when this can be done.

Vries

Cries... when spelling correctly just won't do, which is pretty much always when you're vrying.
