OOC:Ertverse Relationship to Rowling Canon

From ErtverseWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The Ertverse does not usually contradict the Rowling Canon, instead filling in details around what already existed, and adding layers which were not apparent in the reading of the books, but who's addition do not change the facts presented from the point of view the books were told. However, with the coming of the final book, there were some divergences. For the most part, only our expansions and diversions are covered in this wiki. For information on canon you can look to The Harry Potter Wiki or The Harry Potter Lexicon.

Philosopher's Stone - Half-Blood Prince

These books are sacrosanct. Nothing that happened in these books can be denied or did not happen. Some things happened which were not MENTIONED in these books, and a few characters have their facts wrong regarding the existence of certain species, but 99.999999999999999999% of what's in these books is 100% in line with ERT Canon. In regards to the first four books, this is, because they were published before we started play.

With regards to the Order of the Pheonix, and the Half Blood Prince, Novel Induced Retcon was able to bring Erters.org completely in line with the given account. In a surprising number of cases, Ert's own speculative realities (such as the Weasley family clock having all it's hands stuck on "Mortal Peril") were simply proven canon by these books. Some futzing was necessary with the time-line to account for the fact that Fudge was Minister of Magic in Ert at the time, many years after he was supposed to have been fired.

Deathly Hallows

This book is about 90% in keeping with ERT Canon. The following events of the book did not occur in ERT Canon:

  • Fred Weasley, was not killed, as Fred and George were active PCs at the time of publication.
  • Mad Eye Moody, was not killed during the Battle over Little Whinging this book, but during the Final Battle at Hogwarts. He was however, badly wounded at Little Whinging, and remained in St. Mungo's until after the close of the book.
  • Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin were merely openly dating, not married, during the events of the book, and there was no pregnancy, child, or death for either, as Tonks was an active PC at the time of publication, and Lupin appeared in several of her threads as an NPC. Both were severely injured, and left for dead by their attackers, however.
  • Ted Tonks was captured and tortured, but not killed by Death Eaters, as he appeared as an in several posts on the boards as an NPC.
  • Gellert Grindelwald was not killed, although Voldemort certainly believed he had done the deed. Grindelwald's taunts and courage in the face of the reigning Dark Lord can be partially attributed to his knowledge that the prison runes were designed to protect against the use of the Unforgivable Curses by anyone on the premises, due to the dangerous nature of it's prisoners.
  • Severus Snape died after his destruction of Nagani, not earlier.
  • The First Prophecy was broken, as the fight against Voldemort was still in full swing on Ert at the time of publication. This discontinuity was always planned, on the assumption that Voldemort would be defeated in the books.

And, for obvious reasons, the Epilogue did not occur.
