OOC:All Threads Are Open Threads

From ErtverseWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

On many sites, all threads are considered closed unless specified as "Open," and only those invited in an ISO are welcome. It does not work that way here. At Erters.org All Threads Are Open Threads by default, and an ISO is no guarantee that that person will show, or that others will stay out. If there is a reason that a thread should not be open, it should become apparent in the reading of the thread. Below you will find a couple of no-brainer examples.

If two people are having a conversation on the streets of Bellsbury, then there's no reason that your character can't go up and talk to them, even if the one was ISO only the other. Of course they can ignore your character, or ask him to leave, just like in real life, so it doesn't mean you're guaranteed an in. Gauge for yourself whether you can add anything to the thread by joining. Use your head.

If a thread takes place between family members, in the living room of their own home, then there's probably no reason for your character to walk up and start talking to them unless they're breaking and entering. If you want to join that thread, post ringing their doorbell, and remember that your character hasn't heard the conversation, unless you checked with the original participants and they agreed that the window was open, or they were shouting loud enough to be heard on the street.
