MagiJournal
From ErtverseWiki
MagiJournal is the highly publicised (and criticised) innovative widget designed and marketed by the Former Headmistress of Hogwarts, Carmilla Crowe, through her enchanted supplies shop - A Touch of Crowe’s Magic - on Diagon Alley. It has been available to the local British Wizard society since the 20th of August 2005. The product line-up mainly consists of the charmed journals, though over time, there have been changes made to size, user-friendliness and overall look of these gadgets.
While none of the older models have been discontinued because of those modernisations, they have become known as classics and subsequently made redundant in favour of the deluxe box sets and its newer, smaller design.
Crowe’s MagiJournal can be used as personal diary or means to communicate with one or more individuals at a time, without requiring the hassle of standard postal services available to Wizarding Britain. All things that can be done with ink and quill can be transferred via MagiJournal, although the book itself contains no enchantments to copy text/drawings for longer than it needs to send the message. However, it is rumoured that Crowe is looking into a way for group conferences.

Instruction Manual
After a pleasantly brief introduction to the item, the instruction pamphlet goes on to describe the following:
Bonding with your MagiJournal
After removing your MagiJournal from its packaging, please follow the instructions below to ensure that it is (and will forever be) truly yours.
- Swipe your hand over the gem on the front cover of your MagiJournal (location of the gem depends on the edition of MagiJournal). Skin contact must be made with the gem!
- If done correctly, the gem will flicker
- Open the cover and find the word Avatar within the front jacket
- Write your name or another identifying moniker on the dotted line next to Avatar. This can be whatever you want, but choose carefully, Avatar identities cannot be changed afterward.
- Close the cover and swipe your palm over the gem again.
- The gem should flicker again when finished
Congratulations! The MagiJournal can now be used to its fullest capacity!
Bonding with Other's MagiJournals
On the inside of the back cover of your MagiJournal, you will notice a small sleeve, within that sleeve there are 25 bonding strips. These are to be used when Bonding your journal to another’s. (Additional strips can be purchased if you run out). To bond your MagiJournal with another’s, follow these simple instructions:
- Remove one Bonding Strip and write the name you've used for your journal onto it.
- Give said strip to your desired MagiBuddy.
- Get their marked strip.
- Place said strip on the front of your journal (so that it covers the gem) and wave your hand over it while saying the command word: Bond
- Your MagiBuddy should do the same to yours
If done correctly the Bonding Strip will shimmer faintly with gold. Once done, place the Bonding Strip back into its sleeve. You must keep all Bonding Strips if you ever wish to break bonds with your MagiBuddy. (See Breaking Bonds for more information)
To Send a Message to a (Bonded) MagiJournal
- Open a fresh page and write the following: “Dear (MagiBuddy’s Name),” and then your message
- Tap your quill nib to the page, twice.
- The message will then be sent to your MagiBuddy’s Journal.
- If their MagiJournal is not open at the time, you will receive a message to inform you of this, however, your message is still sent, and the moment your MagiBuddy opens their journal, they will see your message.
- When replied to, your MagiBuddy’s message will show up beneath your text.
Multiple Messaging
For each new conversation, a different page must be used. You will receive your messages from different MagiBuddies on the page you started the conversation. New messages from MagiBuddies always begin on a fresh page.
Breaking Bonds
If in the event that you wish to cease communication with a specific MagiBuddy (for whatever reason) follow the steps below to break the Bonds between your MagiJournals.
- Find your MagiBuddy’s Bonding Strip.
- Place said strip over the gem on the front cover of your MagiJournal
- Tap it with your wand and say the command words: Break Bonds
If done correctly, the parchment will crumple itself into a ball. The strips can only be used for creating and then breaking bonds. The crumpling signifies the end of the enchant; it can be safely discarded.
Additional notes on Breaking Bonds
- If a bond is broken on one end, the other will follow.
- Once Bonds are broken, neither party can send or receive messages from one another.
- To recreate a Bond, simply repeat the original Bonding process outlined at the beginning of this scroll.
- You must recreate a new bond each time you purchase a different MagiJournal
- In the event of owning multiple MagiJournals, it should be noted that you cannot have more than one bond to the same journal and that all previous Bonds must be broken and reformed with the new Journal. This Means:
- You cannot have 2 or more journals Bonded to a friends’ MagiJournal, even if you change your ‘Avatar’ for each journal.
- You cannot Bond your MagiJournals to one another
Features
Aside from simple convenience of being able to communicate with everyone on the MagiCircuit, MagiJournal boasts the following features.
- All MagiJournals are Wizard Spaced
- All MagiJournals are impervious to damage and decay, magical or otherwise.
- All MagiJournals are automatically bonded to the MagiSupport journal. If you have any questions regarding the use of your MagiJournal, simply type “Dear MagiSupport” and your message before sending it. Someone will reply to your message within 24 hours.
- If you have received a message to your MagiJournal while not using it, it will automatically go to the page where your new message is located once opened.
- Once a message is received, you will be notified by the gem upon the front cover – it will flicker periodically until the journal has been opened.
Warnings
- The use of MagiJournal is not recommended in areas where electricity or high levels of magic are found. A quiet, safe environment will produce best results and the creator of the journal is not responsible for any bouts of the flu, impotency, lost limbs or eyesight, burns, minor cuts, skin irritation, Batwing Cough, brownouts, or spontaneous combustion.
- MagiJournal can be used without Bonding, though it is not recommended as whatever thoughts or ideas that are placed in the journal can be subject to public scrutiny. Never leave your MagiJournal vulnerable – despite the security and durability of the item, no magic is infallible.
